Smoke-free starts here: Students voices for health.
On May 28, 2025, students at the Royal American School took a strong stand for health by organizing an impactful anti-smoking awareness event. The event featured a series of engaging activities, including a live presentation with shocking facts about the effects of smoking and vaping. They also addressed information about the types and the rising danger of e-cigarettes among teens, as well as nicotine addiction, lung damage, and misleading marketing tactics by tobacco companies. Interactive booths like a quiz showdown, sac race, dart game, straw competition, lung test, suicide game, beep test, tug of war, and a photo booth. It allowed the audience to explore the issue in a more personal and engaging way. The goal was to turn information into action, and the students rose to the occasion. In addition, a special guest speaker, a doctor from the Department of Health, presented and shared real-life stories she encountered patients affected by smoking-related illnesses. From that, she spoke on the long-term effects. The audience took turns and shared personal stories about someone they know who smokes, someone who used to smoke, or their own experiences as former smokers. It was incredibly powerful to see students open up. The courage it took to share those stories made the event even more meaningful and heartfelt.
