The Emirati Lens
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) borders Saudi Arabia and Oman and is located in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula. The seven Emirates were a part of the Trucial States, a British protectorate, before they gained their independence. Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-Quwain, and Fujairah were the six emirates that made up the United Arab Emirates in December 1971. Ras Al Khaimah, the seventh emirate, joined the federation in 1972. The largest and richest of the seven emirates is home to Abu Dhabi, the capital city.
