A new era of Science and Technology in the research of Room Temperature Super Conductors
New International Discoveries Article
Room-temperature superconductors are considered one of the most groundbreaking advances in modern physics and chemistry. These materials have the potential to revolutionize numerous technologies due to their ability to conduct electricity without energy loss at more practical, higher temperatures compared to traditional superconductors.
Super Conductors in general:
So, what even is a superconductor, my fellow reader? Well, a superconductor is a type of material when cooled to a very low temperature can conduct electricity with absolute zero resistance or energy loss. It achieves a state of “perfect conductivity”, where an electric current can flow indefinitely. A perfect material, with all but one flaw; it requires extremely low temperatures to even function. That is close to absolute zero (which for those who don’t know is where Kelvin is very close to zero (K = C +273)), this creates huge issues including expensive materials and processes since it requires huge cooling systems as well as energy consumptions.
Room Temperature Super Conductor:
One of the recent and exciting international discoveries in the realm of chemistry and physics is the development of room-temperature superconductors. In early 2023, scientists reported significant progress toward materials that can conduct electricity without resistance at achievable temperatures and certain high-pressure conditions.
Yeah, about the high pressure, room-temperature superconductors require extremely high pressures. Often, they require over 100 Gigapascals to maintain their ability to superconductor. For those like me who don’t know what a gigapascal is, it’s basically about 10,000 times the pressure of Earth's atmosphere at sea level. Multiply it by 100, making it a million times the pressure of the Earth’s atmosphere.
Potential Applications and Future:
This material holds immense potential in many applications like manufacturing, healthcare, computing, and others. If room-temperature superconductors can be stabilized at lower, more manageable pressures, they could transform a wide range of technologies.
With this superconductor, energy losses during transmission could be nearly eliminated, making electricity distribution far more efficient and sustainable.
It can also be used in medical technologies like MRI machines (which use powerful radio waves to create detailed images of the body's soft tissues, such as the brain, and organs, without using radiation. to make them more affordable and not need a massive amount of energy or cooling systems.
Another example is the maglev train which is a high-speed train that uses magnetic levitation to float above the tracks, eliminating friction and allowing smooth, fast travel. It can be replaced with room temperature superconductors which are a cleaner source and are more stable.
Conclusion:
So, to conclude, this international discovery has the power to change the world as a whole by utilizing its ability to flow with technically speaking, infinite energy. Of course, it wouldn’t be so easy, scientists are facing issues with its incredible need for pressure, but scientists hope to find a way to decrease the pressure needed for it to function and convert the earth to a sustainable place with a lot of energy.
