Time Travel & Other Dimensions⏳🌌

Are we living in a Multiverse?

By: Sawsan Saleh

Many people consider time travel to be science fiction, a fantasy found in literature, films, and our own imaginations. Modern physics, however, presents an alternative viewpoint. When scientists investigated the nature of space and time, they discovered something unexpected. Our universe may not be the only one, and time may not be a simple line.

Einstein’s Clock That Can Bend

The first hint was provided by Einstein. According to his theory of relativity, time is pliable; gravity and speed cause it to slow down, stretch, and bend. Time travel to the future is not only feasible but has been shown to function on small scales because time slows down as you move faster. In orbit, astronauts are only marginally younger than Earthlings. Even though the difference is small, it supports a more general reality: time is not fixed.

Hidden Dimensions: A Playground for Wormholes

But things become even more bizarre when we explore other dimensions. String theory suggests that reality may have ten or eleven dimensions in addition to the three that are visible to us. These additional dimensions could be concealed, curled up, and full of unanticipated opportunities. These dimensions may conceal wormholes, which are shortcuts through spacetime that could link various times or even universes.

The Multiverse: Your Life, but Different

The multiverse is the concept that our universe is just one bubble in an endless sea of others. Some might differ drastically from ours. Some are nearly identical. Every decision you make creates a new universe, according to the equally bizarre Many-Worlds Interpretation. In a different universe, you might have made a different decision this morning and are living a completely different life instead of reading this right now.

Time Travel Without Changing Your Past

What does this imply for time travel, then? If these alternate universes are real, traveling back in time might not entail changing the present but rather entering a completely different dimension where events took place in a different way. You would be transported to a past other than your own.

Although the math is sound, we are currently unable to test these theories. There are a lot of mysteries in the universe, and it's possible that parallel universes or time travel are just undiscovered rather than impossible.
